// Commemoration of Markku Filppula //

It is with great sadness that we announce of the passing after a long illness of Markku Filppula (University of Eastern Finland), a distinguished and much respected scholar, a valued colleague and a dear friend to many in the Irish English network.

Markku was a long-standing member of the Irish English community, and played a significant role in the development of scholarship on Irish English. He is highly respected for his fine scholarship, his dedication and engagement, and for his kind, approachable and modest nature.

The organisers of the New Perspectives on Irish English conference, which will take place in May 16th-18th in Cáceres, are organising that a tribute will be paid to Markku at the conference.

There will also be an obituary published in the May issue of the International Society for the Linguistics of English (ISLE) bulletin.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
